Producers vs. Consumers: Which Side Are You On?
Published: · Updated:
We live in a world overflowing with stuff to consume. Movies, podcasts, endless social media feeds… You can spend a lifetime just scrolling and never create a single thing of your own.
That’s the consumer mindset. It’s easy, it’s passive. But here’s the problem: it won’t get you far.
The Producer Mindset Is Different.
It’s about saying, “I’m not just going to watch the game, I’m going to get on the field.”
- Consumers criticize. Producers create.
- Consumers wait for handouts. Producers hustle.
- Consumers follow trends. Producers make them.
Think of it like building a house: You can spend all day admiring mansions on Pinterest, or you can learn to use the tools and start building your own.
Sure, it’s harder at first. But the rewards are worth it.
Now, I’m not saying you need to quit your day job and become a full-time artist. (Although, hey, maybe you do).
But even small shifts matter:
Small Steps
- Instead of binge-watching a show, try writing a short story.
- Instead of scrolling Instagram, learn how to take great photos.
- Instead of complaining about politics, start a blog and share your views.
The act of making - even if it’s small - trains your brain.
You stop asking “What’s in it for me?” and start thinking “What can I bring to the table?”
This doesn’t just make you more interesting and fulfilled.
It opens up possibilities.
You never know what skills might turn into side-hustles, or even full-blown careers.
Bottom line: The world has enough consumers.
It needs more producers. If you’re ready to level up, make the switch.
Let me know if you need a helping hand.
I’m always happy to help.
Best,
Tim
