5-Step Goal Achievement Process
Published: · Updated:
Welcome to my personal 5-step goal achievement process that never fails.
When it comes to the “why” of goal setting, this quote sums it up:
If one does not know what harbor one is making for, no wind is the right wind.
- Seneca
Here’s my 5-step goal achievement process that never fails:
- Step 1 - Set the ‘big picture’ goal (lifetime, 5 years, and 1 year goals)
- Step 2 - Come up with a strategic plan to achieve the big picture goal
- Step 3 - Break the plan down into 3, specific MITs (most important tasks) that need to be worked on next to follow the plan (2) and achieve the ‘big picture’ goal (1) ultimately
- Step 4 - Remove all distractions. Everything that’s not part of (3) is a distraction
- Step 5 - Action. Focus on the execution of the 3 MITs relentlessly and exclusively - until done
Once done, set the next 3 MITs for the next day.
The 2 most important things I’ve discovered about setting and achieving my goals are:
- We need to focus and re-focus on the specific daily actions
- We need to remove/eliminate all distractions
Consistency is key.
It’s not any more complicated than that.
Anything else is - honestly looked at - a complication of the 5 steps, and therefore a distraction by itself - that needs to be avoided!
If you’re looking for a ‘more advanced/sophisticated’ goal achievement process than the one presented, you need to re-read the last sentence again.
Let me try to say it in the most simple terms:
Everything else is a distraction.
Just follow the 5 steps above and you’ll achieve your goals.
Every single time.
Best,
Tim
